Mitroglou’s Fulham comeback delayed

Fulham will have to wait to have record signing Kostas Mitroglou in their fight against Premier League relegation as the striker’s return from injury has been delayed, ClubCall has reported.

The Cottagers paid Olympiakos £12m for Mitroglou in January but he suffered a knee injury not long after moving to England. Mitroglou is to see a specialist in Italy but it is feared he could even miss the World Cup.

Fulham manager Felix Magath had said he hoped to be able to call on Mitroglou against Aston Villa this weekend but it is believed Mitroglou will be missing for at least a fortnight in a best-case scenario.

Mitroglou has played only twice for Fulham, failing to score against either West Bromwich Albion or Cardiff City, having scored 18 goals in as many games for Olympiakos prior to the transfer. The 26-year-old also netted three goals in five appearances for Greece this season.

Fulham are bottom of the Premier League after a 3-1 home defeat to Everton in their last outing. A David Stockdale own goal and goals from Kevin Mirallas and Steven Naismith cancelled out Ashkan Dejagah’s strike to leave Magath’s side five points adrift of safety with six games to play.
