Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria for a British transfer record fee of £63.9m, according to Sky
The Argentinian is set to fly to Manchester on Monday to discuss the terms of the move and it is hoped that it can be concluded in time for the player to face Burnley on Saturday.
The fee surpasses the £50m paid by Chelsea to capture Fernando Torres in 2011 and could have been more – Madrid wanted approximately €90m but the two clubs eventually settled on the £63.9, or €80m fee.
United boss Louis van Gaal had declined to comment on the mounting speculation of any deal after the club’s 1-1 draw at Sunderland on Sunday but a deal now looks in place.
Di Maria is thought to have said his goodbyes at the Bernabeu and did not train with the Spanish side on Sunday.
Despite putting in a man of the match performance during Real’s Champions League triumph back in May club president Florentino Perez has decided to let him go following the arrival of World Cup Golden Boot winner James Rodriguez.
They are maintaining that it was the player’s decision to move on and have hinted they could reinvest the money of the deal should it be completed.
He made a total of 196 appearances in Madrid colours and bagged 36 goals during his time at the club.
