Sunderland are close to completing the signing of Liverpool’s Uruguay international defender Sebastian Coates, Sky
It’s believed Coates will move to the Stadium of Light on a season-long loan deal having had a medical with the Black Cats. The 23-year-old has been at Sunderland’s training ground on Monday to finalise the deal before transfer deadline day.
Coates moved to Anfield in 2011, signing from Uruguayan club Nacional, and has made 24 appearances, scoring twice. He was loaned back to Nacional for the second half of the 2013-14 season, having fallen out of favour under Brendan Rodgers and missed game time due to injury.
Sunderland are also expected to complete the signing of Inter’s Argentinean midfielder Ricky Alvarez, also on a season-long loan. Alvarez had a medical over the weekend and has joined up with the Argentina national team. He moved to Inter in 2011, leaving Velez Sarsfield.
Alvarez has gone on to make 90 appearances for the Italian club, scoring 14 goals and was part of the Argentina squad that finished as runners-up at the 2014 World Cup.
