Arsenal will be determined to secure only their third Premier League win of the campaign as they take on Hull City for the first time since May’s FA Cup final.
While Arsene Wenger’s touchline spat with opposition boss Jose Mourinho’s provided most of the headlines from the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea, the home side’s were sorely lacking in penetration and ideas in the final third despite having plenty of possession. That result leaves them nine points off the pace, meaning they cannot afford to drop too many points in the coming weeks if they want to fight for the title.
Steve Bruce was a relieved man after he saw his Hull side claim their long awaited second victory of the season against Crystal Palace last time out with an efficient performance. His decision to return to previously successful methods paid off as they gave little away and managed to hold on to their lead. Meanwhile, striker Abel Hernandez is wasting little time in repaying his club record transfer fee.
The hosts have numerous problems to contend with, as Mesut Ozil joined Mathieu Debuchy and Olivier Giroud on the long-term injury list. Laurent Koscielny, Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott are also absent, while Calum Chambers serves a one-match ban after picking up five bookings.
There are slightly less problems for Hull, but Steve Harper will continue to take Allan McGregor’s place in goal. Ahmed Elmohamady is doubtful.
