Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke scored a hat-trick, as the Midlands outfit were held to a draw at home to fellow relegation-threatened side Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night, reports BBC
Against the run of play, Queens Park Rangers took the lead early on through Matt Phillips, but his goal was quickly cancelled out by Benteke, who scored from a deflected effort minutes after Tim Sherwood‘s men went behind.
The Villans then put themselves in the lead after the half hour mark, with Benteke cleverly wrong-footing QPR goalkeeper Rob Green from a quick counter-attack.
Rangers defender Clint Hill headed home an equaliser for the Londoners minutes before the hour mark, and things got better for the Hoops later in the second-half.
Charlie Austin, who cut a frustrated figure for most of the game, got his goal with just over 10 minutes of normal time to play to give Rangers the lead for the second time in the game.
But Benteke scored from a free-kick minutes later to rescue a point for his side. A fair result at the final whistle, but a point wouldn’t have been what either manager wanted before the game.
