Liverpool 2-1 Queen Park Rangers: Gerrard scores late winner to boost Champions League hopes

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard scored in the last few minutes of normal time to give the Reds a valuable win in their pursuit for a Champions League place in the Premier League table this season, reports BBC Sport.

Liverpool took the lead early into the game, with Coutinho scoring a brilliantly lofted effort in the 19th minute to put the Reds on course for a return to winning ways. Brendan Rodgers’ side had struggled with performances in the last few weeks, but looked to be getting backing on track at Anfield this weekend.

They took a narrow lead into the break, but their opponents fought back in the second-half.

Queens Park Rangers pushed hard for an equaliser, and finally got their reward midway into the last 45 minutes of the match through midfielder Leroy Fer. The Dutchman volleyed home inside the area to level the clash for the Londoners.

Steve Gerrard, who missed a penalty for Liverpool in the game, made no mistake with minutes to go, heading home to win his side all three points. The victory boosts their hopes of Champions League football, while all but relegating Queens Park Rangers.
