Wolfsburg to fight Aston Villa for Tom Cleverley this summer

According to Sky Sports, German Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are looking to sign Aston Villa target Tom Cleverly at the end of the season, with the England international enjoying fantastic form while out on loan from Manchester United.

Cleverly is currently playing for Aston Villa until the end of the season, having joined the Midlands club on loan during the summer transfer deadline day. He’s been outstanding under new manager Tom Sherwood, and his form hasn’t gone unnoticed by sides in Europe.

He’s excepted to leave Manchester United regardless this summer, with manager Louis van Gaal having made it clear that Cleverley was surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, but he will have some decisions to make about where is future lies.

The midfielder has been in great form at Aston Villa, but could be swayed to join up with a former boss in Roberto Martinez at Everton, as well as Wolfsburg having made a recent approach. The German side have been sending big to try and oust Bayern in the title race next season, so they’re certainly a club to watch out for in Europe now.

Cleverly has insisted money won’t be a motivating factor in his next move, and has also hinted at an Aston Villa stay, but nothing is guaranteed just yet.
