FC Barcelona lead the chase to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan this summer, with the
Gundogan’s contract expires in 2016, and last month Dortmund announced on their official account that he had elected against extending his deal.

That translates to: “Borussia Dortmund and Ilkay Gundogan will not continue their working relationship beyond 30 June 2016,” which essentially means the Bundesliga giants will have to either sell in one of the next two transfer windows or lose the player for nothing.
Of course, Barca are currently banned from bringing in new signings by a transfer embargo, but a January 2016 move could work well for both clubs.
Given the likely competition for Gundogan’s signature this summer – with Man Utd mentioned as clear rivals by the Mail – Barcelona would may face a bidding war to secure his Camp Nou switch in the new year. That would obviously suit Dortmund, who would also get to keep their player for half a season more.
Gundogan’s a tenacious ball winner, an intelligent passer of the ball, and gifted technically.
With Xavi Hernandez moving on this summer, and Andres Iniesta no longer at his peak, Gundogan could make a superb addition to the Barcelona midfield.
