Despite Brendan Rodgers reportedly being given assurances that his job is safe, reports in Spain claim Liverpool have made an ambitious approach for Carlo Ancelotti, who was recently sacked by Real Madrid.
According to Marca,
Perhaps however, it is not the most audacious bid to come his way from the Premier League, as Marca also suggest that West Ham – who will part company with Sam Allardyce when his contract expires (via BBC Sport) – wanted the Italian to lead them during their first season in the Europa League, having qualified for the competition through the fair play league.
The news will be alarming to Brendan Rodgers, as The Independent reported earlier in the week that his job was safe despite their terrible end to a disappointing season. Having been tantalisingly close to clinching their first Premier League title last year, they finished this campaign well outside the top four.
And their final day humiliation to Stoke, which saw the Merseyside club lose 6-1 in Steven Gerrard’s last game for the club, has prompted Fenway Sports Group to lead an immediate review into where the club currently is. And while Rodgers’ future was not thought to be an item on the agenda, it may well make an appearance should the reports in Spain be correct.
