Arturo Vidal will be an Arsenal player next season, after the journalist that first reported that the Gunners were interested in Alexis Sanchez a year ago, reportedly told Chilean radio that he had completed his move to the Emirates.
According to the Metro, Hernan Feler – who works for DirecTV – reportedly confirmed that the deal would see the Juventus midfielder sign a five-year deal with the Premier League side. He then proceeded to seemingly confirm his claim on a Chilean station by retweeting statements made by excited Gunners fans.
As mentioned, Feler’s previous form will have Arsenal fans dreaming that they may actually get this deal across the line. The Metro report that he was the journalist that first reported that Vidal’s countryman Sanchez was attracting Arsene Wenger’s attention 12 months ago. Given how that turned out – with the former Barcelona man signing, and subsequently enjoying an incredible debut year – supporters will be hoping that this transfer rumour has a similar outcome.
Vidal has cemented a reputation as one of the best box-to-box midfielders in Europe. Along with Paul Pogba, he was the engine room that drove the Old Lady to the Scudetto for a fourth straight year, as well as their first Coppa Italia for two decades. And only Barcelona denied them completing the treble in the Champions League final.
If the deal is yet to be as done and dusted as Feler states, then fans of the north London club will be keeping their fingers crossed that Sanchez keeps working on his countryman for the duration of the Copa America, and does a good enough job to persuade him to put pen to paper.
