The Bayern Munich man’s season was ended very prematurely – although he did feature in the German Cup semi-final against Borussia Dortmund – and without him, Pep Guardiola’s men appeared to struggle for that spark. While the Bundesliga was basically wrapped up before Christmas it seemed, and so his presence wasn’t entirely necessary for the final couple of months of the season, the Bavarian side could have certainly done with him in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, where they seemed completely out of ideas against Luis Enrique’s men.
Despite only making 21 appearances in the league this year, the former Blue managed 17 goals and another seven assists.
