Liverpool are set to take on Premier League arch-rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Hoffenheim forward Roberto Firmino this summer, according to the Metro.
The player’s agent, Roger Wittman, has already confirmed that the 23-year-old will be heading for the Premier League in the upcoming transfer window, though he has yet to confirm his exact destination.
United have been the hot favourites to snap him up, but Brazilian website Globoesporte have now suggested that Liverpool have emerged as serious contenders to land his signature.
Firmino is believed to be available for around £18m, however, his involvement in the Copa America will hold up the progress of any deal until later in the summer.
Firmino has been in fine form for Hoffenheim this season, bagging 10 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.
Both United and Liverpool are keen to add more attacking options to their midfield areas, though the prospect of Champions League football may swing the deal in United’s favour.
