The Red Devils had been hoping to sign the Croatian international before he departed for the Santiago Bernabeu back in 2012, and Louis van Gaal is still keen to bring him to the club now.

And according to the Daily Mail, the Dutchman will request that the Spanish giants include him as part of the deal that would seal goalkeeper David de Gea’s return to the capital.

Following a difficult start to life with Real, Modric has established himself as a firm fan favourite with the club, and though it’s thought that they want to let him go, they could be tempted to allow him to move on if it meant that they would finally be able to get their hands on de Gea.
