Manchester United bos Louis van Gaal has been armed with a substantial transfer kitty again this summer, and has a number of big names in his sights to help bolster the squad ahead of a renewed challenge for the Premier League title, as well as a return to the Champions League.
Going right through the squad, from goalkeeper to attack, the Dutchman knows that he needs to bring in some serious quality to ensure the side stay competitive with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, drawing up a four-man wish list.
In goal, he has targeted Ajax stopper Jasper Cillissen to replace the Real Madrid bound David de Gea. Van Gaal worked with the 26-year-old during his spell in charge of the Dutch national side, though the player is worried that the Eredivise side will price him out of a move with their £25m asking price, though United are confident they can snap him up for £20m.
And slightly further forward in the centre of defence, United are targeting a move for Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos.
The 29-year-old is rumoured to be unhappy with Real’s latest contract offer and being linked with a move to arch rivals Barcelona. Furthermore, he is said to be taking English lessons ahead of a proposed switch to Old Trafford that would see David de Gea head in the opposite direction.
In midfield, the club have been linked with Bayern Munich legend Bastian Schweinsteiger. He is another player that van Gaal is familiar with, and sees him as the ideal replacement for the ageing Michael Carrick.
And finally, up front, the Red Devils are keen on another Real Madrid star in the shape of Karim Benzema. The Frenchman has been linked with an exit from the club recently, and the club want to bring him on board in order to make up for the poor form of Robin van Persie last season.
