New York City FC striker David Villa could be interested in heading to the Premier League for a loan spell when the MLS season finishes.
Manchester City Transfer Gossip
According to the Manchester Evening News, the 33-year-old may head to England in January. And given Manchester City’s affiliation with the new franchise – that has also seen Frank Lampard delay his departure to America by a year – it would not be a surprise if Manuel Pellegrini’s men were the ones to convince the former Spanish international to come back across the Atlantic.
Despite signing Wilfried Bony during the January window last season, the Chilean is desperately looking to bolster his attacking options, with the Manchester Evening News suggesting that both Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko could be potential casualties of a disappointing campaign for the Citizens.
Should they fail in their bid to give Sergio Aguero a worthy partner up top in the summer – with the MEN reporting that Raheem Sterling is their main target, despite a lack of experience up front – they may find themselves turning to Villa to bail them out going into the second-half of next season.
However, the forward is not enjoying the season that many expected him to since his move from Atletico Madrid last year. He has been deployed in a deeper role in the hope that his quality would have a greater influence on the game. However, the side have won just twice this year, and sit bottom of the Eastern Conference. Perhaps the arrival of Lampard may allow Villa the freedom to play further up the field, and add to his surprisingly low total of three goals.
