Schalke defender Benedikt Howedes has confirmed that Arsenal are interested in snapping him up this summer, according to the Daily
The 27-year-old has been linked with a £13m switch to the Emirates recently, as Arsene Wenger looks to bolster his defensive numbers this summer.
However, the Gunners face missing out on his signature, as he looks as though he will extend his deal with the club despite failing to qualify for the Champions League.
And he has admitted that though he is flattered by the interest shown in him by the Gunners and Italian giants, AC Milan, his gut instinct is to stay where he is.
“I know that AC Milan and Arsenal were interested in me, but finally my instinct has made me stay,” he said.
Schalke Sporting Director, Horst Heldt, confirmed he would be staying put: “Benedikt Howedes will remain at Schalke.
“There were two offers from abroad. We are happy he decided to stay here.”
Howedes has spent his entire career with Schalke, but with just a year remaining on his current deal, it had been suggested that he would move on elsewhere in order to reflect his ability and ambition.
