Arsenal midfielder THANKS Jose Mourinho for letting new signing join rivals

Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has admitted that Jose Mourinho has done the Gunners a surprising favour after allowing Petr Cech to move to the Emirates this summer, the Daily Star report.

“He’s a competitor and usually doesn’t like to sell any players to his rivals. But it’s a good favour for us and now we have to take advantage. It’s a top signing,” he said.

The 31-year-old believes that the arrival of the former Chelsea stopper is the kind of signing that will help Arsene Wenger’s men challenge for the title this season.

“It’s very important. Not only for his quality but also for his character. When you play at the top level, the leaders on the pitch make the difference,” he added.

Cech’s arrival is certainly a cause for optimism for Arsenal supporters. When the side have gone on to clinch the Premier League crown in the past, they have boasted a very solid foundation at the back, with a stopper that is able to clear up on the odd occasion that the back four has been breached.

However, since David Seaman and Jens Lehmann, Wenger has been forced to try several keepers, some of which have produced moments of real class, but almost all have been guilty of sloppy mistakes.

The latest pair of Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina have probably been the strongest since Lehmann’s first departure in 2008, but doubts remained about whether either were capable of driving the Gunners to the title for the first time since 2004.

Given that Cech has won everything down the road at Stamford Bridge, there can be little doubt that he is the man to end their wait for the biggest prize in the domestic game.
