A mystery club, believed to be Premier League giants, are said to be behind a £5m offer for Fenerbahce midfield enforcer Mehmet Topal, according to the Daily
A report in the Metro on Friday claimed that the Turkish giants had received a bid from an unnamed London club for the international star.
Both Tottenham and Chelsea had been credited with an interest in the 29-year-old but Arsenal are now being billed as favourites as Arsene Wenger searches for cover for breakout star Francis Coquelin in case he sustains an ill-timed injury at some point in the coming campaign.
Fenerbahce are not thought to be keen on selling Topal, but are facing a struggle to keep hold of him.
With 49 international caps to his name, the former Galatasaray and Valencia defensive midfielder is a vastly experienced battler in the middle of the park, and would add some considerable presence to Arsenal’s positions in the centre.
