Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has made Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla his number one target, as he tries to replace the departing Arda Turan.
According to the Metro, Simeone has been a fan of the 30-year-old for a long time now, and may finally let his interest materialise into a bid, as Turan is in talks with other clubs.
The Metro report that the Spaniard would be open to a move back to his home country, after spending the last three years in the Premier League.
It would be a big blow to the Gunners’ title aspirations if they were to lose Cazorla. Despite the addition of arguably higher profile names – Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez – in the past couple of seasons, the little magician has stood out, and continued to have a massive impact on games.
He has adapted superbly to being dropped slightly deeper to sit alongside Francis Coquelin. If anything, his influence has increased despite sitting just in front of the defence. He is able to display his delightful array of passing, while he can also go on his runs that often suck opponents in, and create gaps in behind.
