Liverpool open talks with £10.5m rated AC Milan forward

Liverpool are ready to start spending the money they made on Raheem Sterling’s move to Manchester City, with AC Milan’s Jeremy Menez reportedly on the Reds’ radar.

According to the Daily Express, talks between the two clubs have begun as the Serie A side are happy to let the Frenchman leave, and are willing to let him go for as little as £10.5m, having secured his signature on a free last summer.

The Express report that negotiations between the two clubs have been promising, having already developed a good relationship following the sale of Mario Balotelli last summer.

However, they will be hoping, should a deal get across the line, that the 28-year-old enjoys a better time at Anfield than the controversial Italian. That looks highly possible given Balotelli’s struggles since his Merseyside move.

The former Paris Saint-Germain forward hit 16 goals in 33 top flight games during the last campaign, which is 15 strikes more than Balotelli managed.

The move is likely to please disgruntled Liverpool fans who have become slightly annoyed by a transfer policy that has often signed players based on potential rather than current ability. While that strategy has seemingly changed during this window, with the acquisitions of Roberto Firmino and James Milner among others, the signing of a proven goalscorer will encourage them that they will bounce back after a disappointing season last time out.
