Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is already getting excited about the prospect of lining up alongside new signing Roberto Firmino by claiming that the Brazilian can have the same impact on the club that Luis Suarez did, the Metro
The Reds pounced earlier this month to bring Firmino in from German side Hoffenheim in a £29m deal (via the Metro) and his arrival is already making waves at Anfield.
And though players and staff usually want to avoid putting too much pressure on new signings, Lucas wasted now time in heaping it on his compatriot by stating his desire to see him have the same impact that Suarez enjoyed before his move to Barcelona last summer.
Speaking with the club’s official website, the long standing midfield ace said: “Hopefully he will be the new Suarez because that would be great for the club, but it is not fair to put that pressure on him now.
“I think he has got all the attributes to be a great player for the club, for sure.
“We will see where he fits in. He showed in Germany what he is capable of and hopefully he will be able to adapt as soon as possible. Listen, I remember when [Luis] Suarez arrived at Liverpool and people didn’t know much about him.
“He has only started to play for Brazil in the last six months, but he has potential and we have seen in the national team that he can perform.”
Firmino is expected to arrive at the club shortly after taking a break following his duties with the Brazilian national side at the Copa America.
As well as the hefty price tag, the 23-year-old is coming to Merseyside with a big reputation, having bagged a total of 49 goals for Hoffenheim in 153 appearances across all competitions.
