The future of popular Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is expected to be resolved next week as the Daily
Skrtel looked to be heading for the Anfield exit door this summer after publicly blasting the club’s offer of a new deal before the end of the previous campaign.
However, the Liverpool Echo are now claiming that he will commit his future to the club for the next three years as early as next week.
Following the loss of Steven Gerrard to LA Galaxy, manager Brendan Rodgers will be desperate to retina his elder, more experienced heads for the forthcoming campaign, and the news that the Slovakian international is prepared to stay on will come as a massive boost.
Skrtel linked up with the Reds in a £7m deal from Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg (via The Telegraph) and has gone on to make a total 293 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals.
Furthermore, losing the burden of having to find a new centre-back will be a weight off Rodgers’ mind as he continues to try and convince Raheem Sterling to stay at the club.
