Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has poured cold water on the notion that the Gunners could be title contenders this season by claiming that they still need at least four more players through the door if they are to seriously challenge Chelsea for honours, the Metro
Arsenal ended the previous campaign 12 points behind Jose Mourinho’s men as they chalked up a respectable third place finish following a sluggish start.
The Gunners have begun their preparations for the new season well by bringing in Petr Cech from the champions, prompting club captain Mikel Arteta to proclaim that the goalkeeper’s arrival would act as a springboard for a serious push for top spot (via Metro).
However, there’s one man that thinks those at the club are getting ahead of themselves, and it just so happens that he is the club’s greatest ever player; Thierry Henry.
“I still think they need four players to get closer to Chelsea,” Henry said.
“I compare it to my generation – I knew, for example, when I first arrived at Arsenal that if I was not performing after an hour, Dennis Bergkamp was on the bench sometimes or Kanu or Sylvain Wiltord or Davor Suker.
“Whoever it was, I knew I had an hour to perform.”
