Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has refused to rule out a late move in the transfer market for an ‘exceptional’ player, the Daily
The veteran boss is shaping his squad up for a serious push for the Premier League title this season after winning back-to-back FA Cups.
So far this summer he has only moved to bring in Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech, but he has made at least one marquee signing in each of the past two summer windows. In 2013 he signing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid before following that up with the signature of Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez last term.
And at his Friday press conference he admitted that should injury strike, he could do with another body coming in to bolster his attack.
“At the moment we do not have Sanchez, not Welbeck, and when these players come back we feel that we have the needed striking force,” Wenger said.
“But we don’t rule out as well if something exceptional turns up to do it.”
With Real Madrid goal machine Karim Benzema having been linked this summer, his comments could be aimed at him, despite several Friday reports claiming that he ruled out a move for the France international.
