Usually when young players are compared to a legend of the modern game they are quick to downplay the comparison, but not Gedion Zelalem.
The Arsenal youngster has recently joined Glasgow Rangers on a season-long loan, and following the comparisons with the likes of Xavi and Andrea Pirlo, the 18-year-old has proved that he doesn’t lack the confidence to back up his own abilities.
“It’s great being compared to Pirlo. Who doesn’t want to be compared to him?” he said.
“I still have a long way to go to be at the same level as them, but I definitely think I will reach that level.”
Zelalem got his Rangers career off to a flyer this week by bagging two assists during the side’s 5-0 victory over Airdrieonians in the Scottish League Cup.
Arsenal have enjoyed a number of high profile youngsters breakthrough into their first team recently, and Zelalem is proving to be yet another one to get the fans excited.
