Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told the club’s official
Wenger gave fitness updates on a number of his players, including striker Danny Welbeck and veteran midfielder Tomas Rosicky, who will both miss out on this weekend’s clash.
However, Wenger gave some slightly brighter news on the status of Sanchez. Despite only returning to training this week following his exertions with his country in the Copa America, he revealed that Sanchez does stand a chance of making into the squad against the Hammers.
Wenger claimed Alexis Sanchez returned to Arsenal training in “good fitness shape” after training on the beaches of Chile, and though he admitted that it isn’t likely that he would be involved, he did confess that there is a chance and the player would be assessed at the end of the week.
“Alexis is back in training but I don’t think he will be involved on Sunday, it is a bit early maybe. We have to decide that at the end of the week, but I don’t think he will be involved,” he said.
“Alex without running around is not Alex, you know. You can’t imagine him lying on the beach somewhere and not moving! He came back in good fitness shape so that is quite positive, but I am not surprised by that because I can’t imagine him lying around for four weeks and doing nothing. That wouldn’t be him.”
