Chelsea planning bid for reported Arsenal target Layvin Kurzawa

Despite closing in on a move to sign Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman (via Daily Mail), Jose Mourinho is preparing to have an alternative lined up in case the Ghanaian’s switch to Stamford Bridge hits a last minute snag.

According to the Metro, the Premier League champions are considering a bid for Monaco defender Layvin Kurzawa, who is also being monitored by Arsenal.

The 22-year-old has been impressive since his emergence into the first-team in 2010, and has gone on to make over 70 appearances in Ligue 1. His development was rewarded in 2014 with his first call-up to the French national squad. He now has two caps under his belt.

The Metro report that he has told the principality side that he wishes to leave this summer.

While Rahman’s move appears set to be completed imminently, the Blues do appear to need more options across their back four.

Mourinho has often used Cesar Azpilicueta on the left side of defence, despite the fact that the Spaniard is more natural on the right. By signing both Rahman and Kurzawa, he would have two first-team options on each flank with Azpilicueta challenging Branislav Ivanovic at right-back.
