Everton to demand £45m for Chelsea target John Stones

Chelsea have been told that they will have to pay £45m if they want to land Everton defender John Stones, according to The Sun.

The Blues have made three bids for the 21-year-old, and while the offers were knocked back by Roberto Martinez’s men, a transfer request from the England international (via BBC Sport) would suggest that Chelsea’s latest bid may have a bit more luck.

However, the Toffees plan to dig their heels in, and have told the Premier League champions that they want a much improved offer if they are to let him move to Stamford Bridge.

The Sun suggest that Everton have based their valuation on the £49m that Manchester City paid for Raheem Sterling earlier in the summer, believing that Chelsea need to pay a premium price for one of England’s biggest prospects.

With The Sun suggesting that Jose Mourinho is only willing to improve his latest offer of £32m by another £3m, it seems likely that this deal is set to go right down to the wire, which – with Everton struggling for options at the back – may be a very dangerous game indeed.
