With three of his players having already moved this summer, and at least another one eyeing a transfer before deadline day at the end of the month, it’s easy to see why Jorge Mendes has earned himself the moniker ‘Super Agent’.
Below, we’ve mapped out an entire XI based around players on his books, and you know what? It’s not a bad looking squad at all.
The Spanish international built up his reputation as a world class goalkeeper last season but has been angling for a move to Real Madrid all summer. The move has verged over into ‘saga’ territory now, but expect a few more twists and turns over the next ten days.
LB: Fabio Coentrao – Real Madrid
Coentrao has been linked with a move to England for a number of years now but it’s never happened. However, he is currently being linked with a switch to AC Milan.
Thiago Silva – Paris Saint Germain
Perhaps the finest defender in the world. He joined PSG in a £29m deal from AC Milan a few years ago, which is a far cry from his underwhelming spell at Porto earlier on in his career.
CB: Ezequiel Garay – Zenit St Petersburg
Linked up with Mendes back in 2013 and soon made a big money move to Zenit St Petersburg amid rumours of a switch to Manchester United. Now the highest paid defender in Russia.
RB: Nicolas Otamendi – Manchester City
Shoehorned in at right-back, the Argentine international has just completed a move to Manchester City.
DM: William Carvalho – Sporting Clube de Portugal
Carvalho has been linked with everyone from Arsenal to Manchester United and Chelsea. Has yet to leave Lisbon, but will do so for a hefty sum when the time comes.
CM: Joao Moutinho – Monaco
A long time client of Mendes, the agent has guided the Portuguese international through all the major decisions of his career so far. He facilitated his move to Monaco, and will undoubtedly play a huge part in getting him out of there, too.
CM: James Rodriguez – Real Madrid
Another player that made the jump from Porto to Monaco before becoming another high profile, big money signing for Real Madrid last summer.
AML: Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid
It’s only fitting that the world’s greatest player is paired with the world’s greatest agent, and Mendes will surely maintain Ronaldo’s status as one of the world’s best paid sportsmen when the time comes for him to leave Madrid.
AMR: Angel Di Maria – Paris Saint Germain
Di Maria has cost Benfica, Real Madrid, United and PSG over £125million, and with Mendes’ fee of 10 per cent coming in, that’s a cool £12.5million for he and his agency.
ST: Diego Costa – Chelsea
Costa was just 19 when Mendes took him under his wing, and has since moved him onto world stardom.
Jose Mourinho – Chelsea
Ever wondered why so many of those players have been linked with Chelsea?
