Jose Mourinho tells Chelsea board he wants Ezequiel Garay signed before deadline

Chelsea are hoping that they will be able to complete a deal to sign Zenit defender Ezequiel Garay, according to the Metro.

The Blues appear to be desperate to add more defensive depth, and having failed in their attempts to land Everton defender John Stones – despite a series of bids – their attention has switched towards the Argentina international, the Metro report.

While Stones’ age means that he offers plenty of potential, Garay brings an experience that may well help the Blues’ Premier League title defence get back on track.

Yesterday’s defeat to Crystal Palace leaves Jose Mourinho’s men eight points off the pace set by Manchester City, and while it is too early to assume that the title won’t be coming back to Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign, the psychological impact of their slow start could scupper their hopes.

Having played in several high-pressure games, including last year’s World Cup final, the 28-year-old could prove to be the addition that helps the Blues find the form that helped them stroll to last year’s title.
