Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to FourFourTwo journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.
The Italian alerted Gunners supporters by sending a tweet simply stating that the Frenchman was on his way, and hinted that he would be donning the number nine shirt at the Emirates.
Benzema is coming. #Arsenal #KB9

And when asked when the 27-year-old would complete his Premier League switch, Giulianelli stuck his neck out by suggesting that the move would be confirmed next week.
@es_yeon next week for what i know

As the rumours of Benzema’s supposedly imminent arrival have been rife for most of the summer, there will surely be plenty of scepticism that will meet Giulianelli’s claims. Given what the club’s fans have gone through during this window – with only one big name arriving through the door – you would not blame them for thinking that any potential move is nowhere near as close as Giulianelli suggests.
Whether the claims prove to be premature remains to be seen, but there is little question that after their opening weekend defeat to West Ham, they need a greater killer instinct in front of goal if they want to end their wait for the title.
