Liverpool line up move for experienced Brazilian to replace Lucas Leiva

Liverpool are said to be closing in on a move for Paris Saint Germain midfielder Thiago Motta after he admitted that he is ‘open for a transfer’, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The 32-year-old, who won the Champions League during his time with Inter Milan, is said to be viewed as the right man to help plug the gap made by Steven Gerrard’s departure, though he would likely be a more capable replacement for Lucas Leiva, who is being linked with an exit from the club before the end of the transfer window.

Motta is still wanted in the French capital, but he was angered by comments made by president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stating that he would not be available to move during the current window.

“I know my importance in the team, but the club don’t think like that,” he said.

“I respect what the president has said, even if I don’t agree with him. The transfer window is open. We’re going to see – I’m open to every situation.

“We have to find an agreement for the good of the club. The important thing is not me, the hierarchy, or the players. The important thing is the club.

“I don’t like to speak like that – I always talk about the team. But now we have a situation where I have to think about myself.”
