The 17-year-old is currently on the books of Imperial Soccer Academy in his native Nigeria, with the Metro claiming that he had been on Manchester City’s radar following an impressive showing at the U20 World Cup in New Zealand earlier in the summer.
However, despite City’s apparent interest, a report in Star Africa is claiming that Liverpool have won the race to land his signature, and he will travel to Anfield shortly to undergo a medical and sign his first ever processional contract.
Star Africa also say that The Reds have beaten off some heavy interest from the likes of French giants Monaco and Portuguese big hitters Porto.
Once the deal is done and dusted, though, the Metro suggest that the teenage front man will likely be loaned out to gain some valuable first team experience, highlighting Belgium and Holland as the most plausible destinations.
Liverpool’s recruitment policy this summer has largely been based on who can improve the team immediately, but it is good to see that Brendan Rodgers still has an eye on the future with this addition.
