Man United goalkeeper set to stay as club pull out of move

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes looks set to stay at Old Trafford beyond this summer, after the Daily Express reported that Besiktas had pulled out of the deal to sign the 33-year-old.

The Turkish side’s head coach Senol Gunes reportedly decided against a move for the former Barcelona man after coming to the conclusion that the wages Valdes would receive could be much better spent in other areas of the squad (via Express).

The news that the Spaniard is set to stay is unlikely to see him return to contention for a place in Louis van Gaal’s side, however. The Express report that the pair fell out after the Dutchman accused his goalkeeper of refusing to play for the reserve side. Valdes – who had played several games for the second team before the spat – responded on social media.

With a deal so far down the line, it seems quite possible that there is not enough time left in this window for Valdes to agree an exit before the deadline, unless Besiktas experience another change of heart and go back in for the stopper.
