Man United struggling to close Pedro deal as City loom large

Manchester United are said to be struggling to complete a deal for Barcelona winger Pedro, according to the Daily Express.

United are said to be haggling with the La Liga giants over the deal, despite him having a buy out clause in his contract that is set at £21.3m (via Daily Mail).

The Mail claim that the Red Devils have offered just £17.7m with a further £3.6m in add-ons in the hope of bringing him to Old Trafford, but Barcelona want the full amount up front.

And now both reports are stating that cross-city rivals Manchester City are keeping a close watch on the situation, though they are yet to make an official approach.

However, if they do, The Express suggests that Manuel Pellegrini is prepared to meet the full asking price to land his signature.

Pedro featured for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao on Friday night, but head coach Luis Enrique admitted that the player’s future is still far from certain.

“We all know the situation that Pedro is experiencing,” he said.

“We want him to stay, but it’ s a difficult decision. Nothing has changed yet, but it will change.

“Pedro is in a difficult situation. He’s a player who wants to stay but also wants more minutes. All the fans understand the Pedro situation.

“He has been, is and always will be loved by Catalans because of his professionalism.”
