Aston Villa wrap up season-long loan deal for Liverpool defender

Aston Villa wrapped up their summer transfer business by announcing the signing of young Liverpool centre-back Tiago Ilori, the Daily Express reports.

The Portuguese under-21 international joined The Reds back in 2013, but has so far yet to make a first team appearance for the club, spending the past two seasons out on loan with Spanish side Granada and Ligue 1 giants Bordeaux instead.

Liverpool will receive a £1m loan fee for the London-born defender, and should he play regularly he will spark a clause allowing Villa to sign him on a permanent deal for a fee ranging anywhere between £6m-£9m.

Should that happen, The Reds will also receive 25% of any future sell on fee that Villa will receive.

The 22-year-old will now compete for a spot in Villa’s back line with the likes of Michah Richards, Ciaran Clarke, Jores Okore and fellow new signing Joleon Lescott, who also joined the club on deadline day.
