Chelsea are considering whether to make a surprise move for Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to the Daily
The Blues have made a poor start to the new season, with just one win and three defeats from their opening five games, and their defensive struggles have been one of the factors behind their shaky form.
Ahead of their game with Everton, the side were rocked by the news that Thibaut Courtois would be out for three months after suffering a knee injury (via BBC Sport). The Belgian’s understudy Asmir Begovic has struggled since his move to Stamford Bridge, and it appears that Jose Mourinho is running out of patience with the former Stoke man.
The Mirror suggest that Valdes is being lined up for a possible switch after it was made clear that he had no future at Old Trafford.
The 33-year-old engaged in a public spat with Louis van Gaal (via Metro), and has not been included in any of the Red Devils’ matchday squads since.
And while it appeared that an olive branch may have been extended to the former Barcelona stopper after he was included in United’s Premier League squad, his inclusion was simply to comply with the regulations, the Metro report, meaning that van Gaal is unlikely to stand in Valdes’ way should the champions make a bid.
