David De Gea signs new four-year deal with Manchester United

David De Gea has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United, the Daily Express reports.

The Spanish international has spent the summer being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, but news broke earlier in the week that he may be prepared to extend his stay at Old Trafford (via BBC).

Rumours were then sent into overdrive when pictures emerged of super agent Jorge Mendes leaving the club’s Carrington training complex on Thursday afternoon (via Daily Mail).

And it now appears that talks amongst all parties were successful, and the Daily Mirror are even reporting that his new deal will earn him a rise to collect a weekly wage of £200,000-per-week.

“I am delighted to be starting this new chapter in my United career,” he said.

“I have always enjoyed playing with these great players in front of our fantastic fans.

“Manchester United is a special club and Old Trafford is an ideal place for me to continue to develop my career.”

De Gea had been tipped to join Real Madrid on transfer deadline day – with Keylor Navas heading in the opposite direction – but the move failed, leaving both clubs blaming each other for the breakdown in communications (via Express).

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez then confirmed this week that the club would not be making a move for the 24-year-old during the upcoming January window, despite him being available on a free transfer next summer (via Express).
