Liverpool boss confirms Daniel Sturridge won’t be back in time to face Man United

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers have waved away any hopes of having striker Daniel Sturridge back in time to face Manchester United this weekend, the Daily Express reports.

The Express reports that pictures of the England international training this week sparked speculation that he could be in line for an early return to The Reds’ line up for the crunch clash with Louis van Gaal’s men.

Though the 26-year-old has stepped up his recovery from a hip injury (via Express), he is still some way off being match fit for this weekend.

And now Rodgers has confirmed that he will not play a part of the 5:30 clash on Saturday, but he has also stated that there will be no timeline set on his return.

“Sturridge returned to training but there’s no timeline on when he will play in games,” he said.

Rodgers did offer one slither of light, though, by stating that this week Sturridge has looked fitter than he has done at any point over the past 18 months, thus giving hope that it may not be too long before he is welcomed back into the fold.

“He looks really sharp in training, the fittest he’s looked for 18 months,” he dded.
