Liverpool striker gives Brendan Rodgers major boost as he returns to training, but should still miss Man United clash

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has given the Reds a massive boost ahead of their clash with Manchester United by returning to full training, according to the Daily Star.

The 26-year-old has not played since April, and underwent hip surgery in May (via Star), and while the Star suggest that the game at Old Trafford will be too early for his competitive return, his comeback is likely to provide Brendan Rodgers’ men with a major lift.

Although last season was something of a write-off for the former Chelsea man – as a spate of injuries prevented him finding any form – Sturridge has proved in the past how lethal he can be, and how valuable a player he is to Rodgers’ squad.

He formed a blistering partnership with Luis Suarez that so nearly guided the Anfield outfit to the Premier League title during the 2013/14 season.

And while Suarez has proved to be irreplaceable since his move to Barcelona, the arrival of Christian Benteke may provide Sturridge with the kind of partner that gets the very best out of him.
