Man United boost as David de Gea plans to sign new deal

David de Gea is set to confirm that his move to Real Madrid is dead for the time-being, by signing a new contract with Manchester United, according to the Metro.

The Spaniard’s switch to the Bernabeu appeared inevitable as he had just one year left on his current deal with the Red Devils, but after his move collapsed at the last minute, it seems that he’s prepared to commit his future to Old Trafford (via Metro).

The motivation behind his change of heart appears to be his desire to establish himself as Spain’s number one for next year’s European Championships, the Metro report.

And with Iker Casillas performing consistently for the national team, and for new club Porto – where he has conceded just one goal in his opening three games – rediscovering his best form appears to be de Gea’s only hope of becoming Vicente del Bosque’s preferred man between the sticks in France next year.

However, he has sat out every game for Louis van Gaal’s side so far this season amid speculation over a move, meaning that he will probably have to prove his loyalty to United before he is recalled, and a new contract will surely do that.
