Gareth Bale’s agent has quashed speculation linking his client with a move to Old Trafford, by suggesting that he was never close to leaving during the summer, the Daily Express report.

Jonathan Barnett also stated that the Welshman wanted to spend the rest of his career with Real Madrid.

“He has come nowhere near being transferred in the past few months,” he said.

“He is very happy at Real Madrid and hopefully he will stay there for the rest of his career. He is loving it there,” he added.

Louis van Gaal and David de Gea are set to hold clear-the-air talks later today in an attempt to bring the Spaniard back into the first-team, the Daily Express report.

The 24-year-old has been left out of every United squad so far this season amid speculation of a move to Real Madrid, but he is now likely to return for the clash against Liverpool.

Midfielder Ander Herrera has stated that the Red Devils need to be finishing higher than fourth this season, the Daily Mirror report.

The Spaniard believes that there are no excuses for not improving on last season.

“We are going to try to win every game. When I see the millions of supporters we have, I just think we cannot be fourth in the league, we have to be higher,” he said.

However, Herrera has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the near future after finding much more competition in his position this season, the Daily Express report.

Barcelona and Valencia have been linked with the 26-year-old, but both have yet to make an approach regarding a move.
