Wayne Rooney took just over ten minutes of England’s clash with San Marino to equal Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record for the Three Lions.
The skipper scored his 49th goal in his 106th international appearance – the same amount of caps it took the Manchester United legend to achieve his impressive total – after Roy Hodgson’s side were awarded an early penalty against the minnows.
A free-kick appeared to be dealt with, only for the referee to blow his whistle after spotting one of England’s attackers being held by his opponent in the box.
And Rooney needed no second invitation to equal the record.
