Barcelona ready to hijack Chelsea’s move for Paul Pogba

Barcelona are set to rival Chelsea for the signature of in-demand midfielder Paul Pogba after confirming their interest in the France international, the Daily Express reports.

The Juventus star has been heavily tracked by the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and former club Manchester United over the transfer window, but ended up staying in Turin after they sold midfield partner Arturo Vidal to Bayern Munich.

Pogba was hastily let go by United after failing to break into the first team under Sir Alex Ferguson, but has since blossomed into one of the best young central midfielders in the game.

Chelsea were interested in bringing him back to the to the Premier League, but could not convince him to push through an exit from the Serie A champions.

The Blues are expected to go back for him again in the near future, but will be faced with some strong competition from Barcelona, who confirmed that they will look into their own move for him once their transfer embargo is lifted in the new year.

“The amount he’d cost has to be considered,” Barcelona technical director Robert Fernandez said.

“But you can find a solution for that. We have freedom to work [after a transfer ban] and when the time comes we’ll sit down and decide.”
