It’s the first Merseyside derby of the season, and it could not be a bigger ‘must win’ game for Reds boss Brendan Rodgers.
Victory over Aston Villa last weekend gave him a brief respite, but a defeat to cross city neighbours Everton could invite more pressure on his already fragile job security.
With that in mind, he may opt for greater defensive stability with five at the back. However, that would also allow him to switch to attack easily with the support of his wing-backs.
Below is how we think Liverpool will line up.
GK:
Less erratic than he was last season, but he’ll need his defence to form a wall in front of him this weekend.
CB: Mamadou Sakho
Sakho has stepped up a gear this season, but more is still needed from him.
CB: Martin Skrtel
The main man at the heart of Liverpool’s back line, and he will also be deemed a goal threat from set pieces.
CB: Emre Can
Better in midfield, but he will be expected to shift back into the heart of the defence once again.
LWB: Alberto Moreno
His pace and versatility will see him come in over Gomez, despite the youngster’s impressive start.
RWB: Nathaniel Clyne
Like Moreno on the opposite flank, he will be expected to provide support going forward and tracking back.
