Man United could ditch Marcos Rojo in favour of highly-rated Porto centre-back

Manchester United could be set to offload Argentine international defender Marcos Rojo in January and replace him with FC Porto star Bruno Martins Indi, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The report claims that Rojo’s relationship with manager Louis van Gaal has broken down to the point where the club are now in the process of identifying a replacement for him, with Martins Indi coming top of the list.

Like Rojo, the Dutch international is also capable of featuring in the heart of the defence as well as on the left side – where he impressed during the recent Champions League victory over Chelsea (via MEN).

Martins Indi made his international debut under van Gaal, and featured in six of The Netherlands’ seven games during last summer’s World Cup, and the manager has reportedly sent a number of scouts out to Portugal to keep tabs on his form (via MEN).

The report highlights the close relationship between the two, which began almost immediately when Martins Indi told Van Gaal: “I would really like to become better. I would like to ask you a lot, Mr Van Gaal.”

Van Gaal said: “That’s a good thing, because I can help you with that.”

Martins Indi replied: “Really?” before Van Gaal beamed: “I love you already, Bruno.”

He is still under contract in Portugal until 2018 (via MEN).
