The Gunners are believed to be in the process of offering the Chilean international a new contract that would see him become the club’s highest earner (via Metro), but Spanish publication Don Balon is claiming that The Gunners may have a fight on their hands to keep hold of him with Real Madrid reportedly lining up an offer to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
It is believed that the La Liga giants are working on a £37.5m to land the 26-year-old and may even throw in Russian winger Denis Cheryshev into the mix as a sweetener.
Arsenal won’t want to lose their star player, but should they fall out of the Champions League at the group stage then the Chilean international may opt to look for a way out.
