Greedy American owners spoiled British starlet’s move to Liverpool

Liverpool fans have not been very happy with the Reds’ transfer policy the past few seasons. Now, former boss Brendan Rodgers has added to the fans’ frustrations.

According to The Daily Mail, Liverpool was on the brink of signing Delle Ali from MK Dons. The British starlet supported the Reds as a kid, but instead of coming to Anfield, joined Tottenham on a bargain £5 million fee.

Rodgers recalled how frustrating and disappointing it was to let Alli slip away, despite having talked to the player on different occassions.

The former Liverpool boss blamed the team’s American owners for being greedy. They saw Alli as just another Under-21 prospect and were going to pay him accordingly: £4.000 a week.

The talented midfielder passed up on that, joining the Spurs in January 2015, before joining MK Dons on loan again, helping them promote to the Championship.

This season, Alli has been stellar at White Heart Lane. He has featured in 28 matches in all competitions for the Spurs, scoring five goals and providing two assists. He’s a regular starter for Mauricio Pochettino and has been capped four times for England’s senior team, scoring one goal.
