Manchester City get huge fitness boost before Tottenham clash

Vincent Kompany is in line to return to Manchester City’s starting lineup for the first time since December, while the Citizens could also count on David Silva for their clash with Tottenham on Sunday.

The Belgian captain has endured another difficult season due to a recurring calf injury, with his last start in any competition coming in the goalless draw at Aston Villa in November.

Kompany made a brief appearance from the bench against Sunderland on Boxing Day, but quickly limped off after just nine minutes.

Eventually returning to first-team training last month, he’s now ready to start again for the Citizens.

“Vincent is working the last three weeks without any problems. He played 45 minutes in a friendly with the Under-21s so I think that he is ready now to play,” coach Manuel Pellegrini said on the club’s website.

Silva has been consistently plagued by problems since an injury in October, but looks fit enough to play against the Spurs, despite recently returning to his native Spain for treatment on yet another ankle problem.

However, Pellegrini also revealed a couple of injury setbacks, as Bacary Sagna and Fabian Delph have joined City’s injury list. The Frenchman should be back in a week, but Delph will be out for six to seven weeks.
