On Sunday, Borussia Dortmund beat Mainz 05 2-0 with goals from Marco Reus and Shinji Kagawa. However, it proved to be one of the worst wins in the club’s long history.
Two Dortmund fans suffered a heart attack during the match, with one of them not making it… The famous “Yellow Wall” remained fairly quiet due to the sad happenings, even when Kagawa scored with 15 minutes left.
After the match, the team and their fans performed an amazing version of “You’ll never walk alone”, in honour of the victims.
Dortmund are currently ranked second in the Bundesliga, with 61 points. They are only five points down from league leaders Bayern Munich, who have won the last three Bundesliga crowns.
With eight matches remaining Dortmund still have a solid chance to catch Pep Guardiola’s team in the standings, as they have scored 61 goals in 26 matches. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has hit the net 22 times so far, only trailing Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski, who has scored 24 goals this season.
Last season, Dortmund finished just seventh after struggling all season under Jurgen Klopp, who eventually left the club after seven seasons in charge. The German then took control of Liverpool in October.
